Fes → Ifrane → Azrou cedar forest → Fes
Approx. driving time: Approx. 180 km round trip
The Middle Atlas is Fes’s mountain backyard. Ifrane’s parks and cool air feel almost alpine; the cedar forest of Azrou is home to Barbary macaques and wide picnic clearings. In winter there can be snow; in summer it is an escape from medina heat.
We stop at a viewpoint, walk a short forest path, and have lunch in Ifrane or a Berber village restaurant. Back in Fes by late afternoon. Families and older travelers like this day because the walking is optional and the scenery is immediate.
