Tours from Fes

Fes is Morocco’s spiritual and artisan capital, and a superb place to begin a Sahara journey. The road south climbs through cedar forest and highland towns before the landscape opens toward Erfoud and Erg Chebbi. Many travelers continue from the dunes to Marrakech via Todra Gorge, Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou.

Why start from Fes?

Fes is the better start if you land in the north, want the medina first, or prefer a shorter transfer to Erg Chebbi than from Marrakech.

Tour styles from here

Popular patterns are 2 days Fes–Merzouga, 3 or 4 days Fes–Marrakech via the desert, and longer Morocco tours from Fes that add Chefchaouen or Casablanca.

Typical routes

Southbound roads climb through Ifrane and Midelt, then follow the Ziz palmeraie to Erfoud and Merzouga. Westbound desert tours continue via Todra, Dades and Ait Ben Haddou to Marrakech.

How many days

Give Fes itself at least one full day. Two nights in camp need a 3-day desert outline. A one-way Fes to Marrakech Sahara trip is the spine we recommend when flights allow.

Every itinerary is private. Tell us your dates and we will match driving days to your energy, not to a coach timetable. Related reading: all private Morocco tours and day trips from Fes.

Questions about tours from Fes

Is the Sahara closer from Fes than from Marrakech?

Yes. Fes to Merzouga is a demanding but shorter desert approach than Marrakech to Merzouga. That is why 2-day Fes–Merzouga tours exist, while Marrakech really wants three.

Do I need a guide in the Fes medina?

For a first morning, yes — Fes el-Bali is easy to romanticise and easy to waste. We book a licensed local walking guide; the desert driver does not replace that.

Can a Fes tour include Chefchaouen?

Yes, as an overnight or a long day trip. An overnight is kinder. We often place Chefchaouen before or after Fes on Tangier-start itineraries.

Need something that is not on this list?

We add tours constantly. If you have extra days, children, or a wish to skip the camel, write to us.
